Childhood and Early Life

Michael Schulte, a German singer and songwriter, was born on April 30, 1990, in Eckernförde, Germany. He grew up in Lindau and Dollerup. Schulte attended the Duborg-Skolen Gymnasium in Flensburg, where he completed his education in 2009. After finishing school, he chose to pursue alternative civilian service.

Early Musical Endeavors

Schulte started learning to play the guitar at the age of seven, with his father teaching him the first chords. He discovered his interest in singing as soon as he could speak and later taught himself how to play the piano. At the age of ten, he composed his first song. Schulte became a street musician, gaining experience and seeking an audience on the internet.

Rise to Fame

In 2008, Schulte began posting cover songs on his YouTube channel, mostly accompanied by his guitar. By February 23, 2018, his videos had been viewed over 50 million times, with his cover of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" being the most popular, with 4.7 million views. In April 2010, he signed a deal with Viva La Media and later worked under a contract with Weinstein Media.

The Voice of Germany

In 2011, Schulte participated in the first season of the German version of the show "The Voice of Germany". He impressed the judges with his rendition of Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" and joined Rea Garvey's team. Schulte finished in third place, behind Kim Sanders and Ivy Quainoo. His cover of Radiohead's "Creep" from the show reached the 62nd position on the German charts. After "The Voice," Schulte signed with independent label Edel AG.

Music Career and Eurovision

In 2012, Schulte released his debut album, "Wide Awake," featuring the song "Beautiful Life" written by his former coach Rea Garvey. In December of the same year, he presented the mini-album "Grow Old with Me." In April 2014, Schulte released his studio album "The Arising" and later released the mini-album "Thoughts" in May of the same year. In 2017, Schulte appeared in the German mini-series "Neomaniacs."

On December 29, 2017, it was announced that Schulte would be one of the six participants in the German national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. His song "You Let Me Walk Alone" won the competition. Germany is the only country to have participated in every Eurovision since its inception in 1956. Schulte finished fourth in the final with a total of 340 points.

Recent Work

In 2018, Schulte released his album "Dreamer" with the support of the label "Very Us." The album features a new single, as well as the best songs from his previous albums and two acoustic versions of "You Let Me Walk Alone" and "You Said You'd Grow Old with Me." The album is available for download, on CD, and for the first time in Schulte's career, on vinyl.
