Michael Thomas Turner - English Football Player
Michael Thomas Turner, born on November 9, 1983, in Lewisham, London, is an English football player who currently plays as a defender for Hull City.
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Turner began his career in the youth team of Charlton Athletic. He also had the opportunity to train with the youth team of Italian club Inter for a few months as part of a collaboration between the clubs. After signing his first professional contract with Charlton in 2002, Turner, who was not even named in the squad for the first team, was loaned to Leyton Orient in March 2003. Upon returning to Charlton, he played for the youth team, eventually becoming the captain and winning the club's Young Player of the Season award for the 2003-2004 season.
Breakthrough at Brentford
In August 2004, Turner was loaned to Brentford, initially for one month which was later extended to two, and then three months. Eventually, Brentford decided to purchase Turner and signed him to a 2.5-year contract in November 2004. It was at Brentford that Turner truly flourished, becoming a defensive leader for the club. He received the club's Player of the Season award in two consecutive seasons, voted by both his teammates in the 2004-2005 season and the club's fans in the 2005-2006 season.
Move to Hull City
In July 2006, Turner was acquired by Hull City for £350,000, signing a three-year contract with the Tigers. Phil Parkinson, the head coach of Hull City at the time, commented on the acquisition of Turner, saying, "He is a player I have watched for many years, first with Charlton's reserves and then at Brentford. I like him, and I think he will be an excellent acquisition because he is ready to play in the Championship. Michael was the best central defender in League One last season, and he is ready to step up to the next level."
Success at Hull City
Initially, Turner struggled to find his form at Hull City, making frequent mistakes. However, after a few months with the team, he was able to reach his high level of play. In the 2007-2008 season, he even became the club's Player of the Season, which led to a new three-year contract in April 2008.
