Early Life and Coaching Career in Severodvinsk
Mikhail Vladimirovich Kichev, a renowned swimming coach, hails from Arkhangelsk, Russia. His journey began in Severodvinsk in 1976, where he established himself as a dedicated mentor in speed underwater swimming. Inspired by his mother's expertise in garment design, Kichev innovated his own unique monofins, revolutionizing the sport in the region. His individualized approach to coaching, emphasizing the development of each athlete's unique abilities, proved instrumental in nurturing a formidable team of underwater swimmers.
International Recognition and Opportunity
Kichev's exceptional coaching skills garnered international attention. In 1987, he was invited to train a French swimmer for the World Championships. This collaboration paved the way for his eventual relocation to France in 2016. The closure of Severodvinsk's Delphin swimming pool necessitated a temporary shift to alternative training facilities. Nonetheless, Kichev's passion for his craft remained unwavering.
Coaching in France and Achievements
Upon his arrival in France, Kichev was appointed as the coach of the "TOP" underwater swimming club in Toulouse. Despite initial challenges with the French mentality and language barrier, his exceptional coaching methods quickly bore fruit. Within a year, TOP emerged as the top club in the country, and eight of Kichev's protégés were selected for the French national team, which he now leads as the head coach.
Nostalgic Return to the Russian North
Despite his success in France, Kichev maintains a deep connection to his Russian roots. He makes an annual pilgrimage to the northern city of Severodvinsk, where he visits his mother in Arkhangelsk and enjoys the vibrant musical scene at the Volna restaurant. This nostalgic return to his homeland provides him with a renewed sense of belonging and inspiration.
