François Clément

François Clément was a French historian and a Benedictine monk from the Maurist congregation.

Historical Works

In 1728, he published "Histoire de la ville et des seigneurs de Coucy" (History of the City and Lords of Coucy), followed by "L'Histoire de l'Église de Meaux" (History of the Cathedral of Meaux) in 1731.

Geographical and Historical Studies

In 1740, Clément published "Description géographique et historique de la Haute Normandie" (Geographical and Historical Description of Upper Normandy), which included valuable observations on local toponymy.

Royal Biography

Also in 1740, he authored "Histoire de Jacques II Roi de la Grande Bretagne" (History of James II, King of Great Britain).

Parisian History

In 1753, Clément printed "Nouvelles annales de Paris, jusqu'au règne de Hugues Capet" (New Annals of Paris, Up to the Reign of Hugh Capet). This work included a reprint of Abbo of Fleury's poem "On the Siege of Paris."
