Michael Francis "Mick" Foley, Sr. (born June 7, 1965) is an American actor, author, comedian, voice actor, and professional wrestler. He currently works for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) as an Executive Shareholder.
Early Life and Inspiration
Foley was born in Bloomington, Indiana, and moved to East Setauket, New York, where he attended Ward Melville High School. He played lacrosse and began wrestling while in high school. Foley attended the State University of New York at Cortland, where he was inspired to pursue a career in professional wrestling after witnessing a steel cage match between Jimmy Snuka and Don Muraco at Madison Square Garden.
Career
Foley has worked for multiple wrestling federations, including World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Ring of Honor (ROH), and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). He is known as "The Hardcore Legend" along with Terry Funk.
Throughout his career, Foley has used various ring names, including "Mike Foley," "Cactus Jack," "Mankind," and "Dude Love." As "Mankind," he became the first-ever WWF Hardcore Champion, winning the title three times. He has also won the WWF Tag Team Championship eight times, the ECW World Tag Team Championship twice, and the WCW World Tag Team Championship once.
After retiring from in-ring competition, Foley made appearances for WWE as a referee and commentator. He left WWE in 2008 and joined TNA, where he became the company's main shareholder and former TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
Writing and Media
Foley is the author of several best-selling autobiographies, including "Have a Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks" and "Foley Is Good: And the Real World Is Faker than Wrestling." He has also starred in the documentary films "Beyond the Mat" and "Bloodstained Memoirs."
Legacy
Mick Foley is widely considered one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. His innovative and hardcore style has left a lasting impact on the industry. He is a WWE Hall of Famer and was inducted into the Hardcore Hall of Fame in 2005.
