Early Career and Nantes

Mickaël Landreau began his footballing journey at the renowned Nantes youth academy. He made his professional debut in 1996, keeping a clean sheet against Bastia. Over the next few years, Landreau became a key member of the Nantes squad, winning two French Cups (1999 and 2000) and the league title in 2001.

Paris Saint-Germain and Lille

In 2006, Landreau signed a four-year contract with French giants Paris Saint-Germain. He captained the team and enjoyed regular playing time. In 2009, he moved to Lille on a three-year deal, where he remained until 2012.

Bastia and Retirement

In December 2012, Landreau joined Bastia on a six-month contract, which was later extended. On December 4, 2013, he broke the Ligue 1 record for most appearances, reaching 603 career games in the French top flight. Landreau announced his retirement on May 12, 2014, holding the Ligue 1 record for most matches played (618).

International Career

Despite being primarily a substitute behind Fabien Barthez and Grégory Coupet, Landreau represented France in several youth teams and made over ten appearances for the senior team. Notably, he was part of the squad that won the 2001 and 2003 FIFA Confederations Cups and finished as runners-up in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Playing Style

Landreau was renowned for his quick reflexes and exceptional ability to save one-on-one situations and penalty kicks. Throughout his career, he saved over 30 penalties.
