Early Life and Education

Mikhail Ivanovich Bektov was born in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, on December 23, 1907, into a working-class family. His father, Ivan Mikhailovich, was a member of the Communist Party since 1906. Bektov completed secondary school and attended the Industrial Institute, where he studied engineering. He also graduated from the Communist Party School.

Pre-War Career and Military Service

Before the war, Bektov worked as the Head of the Capital Construction Department at the Industrial Institute. In 1930, he joined the army as a cadet and later became a platoon commander in a regimental school. During this period, he became a member of the Communist Party.

Winter War and Distinction

In September 1939, Bektov was recalled to active duty and participated in the Winter War against Finland. He commanded a rifle company and played a crucial role in the capture of a heavily fortified dot near Lake Muolanyarvi. His actions earned him the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on April 7, 1940.

World War II and Post-War Service

During the Great Patriotic War, Bektov initially served as a battalion chief of staff before becoming an instructor for the Moscow City Military Commissariat and the Central Committee of the Communist Party. After the war, he continued to serve in the army.

Later Years and Legacy

In 1960, Bektov retired from active duty with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and worked as a department head in the Ministry of Trade of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. He lived in Moscow and received numerous awards, including the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Patriotic War, and the Order of the Red Star.

Mikhail Bektov passed away on October 1, 1981. In his honor, a street in the Soviet district of Nizhny Novgorod bears his name.
