Early Life and World War I

Friedrich Wiese was born in Flensburg, Germany, on August 23, 1892. In 1914, he enlisted in the 84th Schleswig Infantry Regiment as a volunteer. He later fought in the 147th Masurian Infantry Regiment in France and was commissioned as a lieutenant in November 1915. Wiese participated in battles on the Eastern Front, where he was wounded.

Interwar Period

After World War I, Wiese fought in the Baltic States with a volunteer corps in 1919. He retired from military service with the rank of Oberleutnant and joined the Hamburg police force. He held various command and staff positions, including instructor of tactics at an officer's academy. In 1934, Wiese became chief of staff of the regional police headquarters.

World War II

In August 1935, Wiese returned to military service as a major. He commanded the 1st Battalion of the 116th Infantry Regiment until the outbreak of World War II. During the Polish and French campaigns, he served with the 9th Infantry Division and participated in the invasion of Luxembourg, Belgium, and Paris. From December 1940, he commanded the 39th Infantry Regiment of the 26th Infantry Division.

Eastern Front

From June 1941, Wiese fought on the Eastern Front, participating in battles near Polotsk, Kalinin, and Rzhev. In April 1942, he assumed command of the 26th Infantry Division, leading it in engagements at Bolhov, Orel, and Kursk. In August 1943, he became commander of the XXXV Army Corps, which fought in the Bryansk area. He was later involved in battles near Gomel and Bobruisk.

Western Front and Surrender

In June 1944, Wiese's corps was destroyed by Soviet forces. He was then appointed commander of the 19th Army in France. In December 1944, he was removed from command and placed in reserve. From March 1945, he led the VIII Army Corps in Silesia and, from April 1945, the XI Army Corps of the 1st Panzer Army. Wiese surrendered to American forces in May 1945.
