Biography of Pyotr Vysocky
Pyotr Vysocky was a Polish officer and participant in the national liberation movement. He was born in Poland and received his education at the Piarist School in Warsaw. After graduating, he joined the Cadet School, and upon completion, he became an officer in the 4th Grenadier Regiment of the Polish Army. In 1828, he became an instructor at the Cadet School and also joined the Patriotic Union.
Leader of the Radical-Democratic Wing
Vysocky was the leader of the military radical-democratic wing of the Polish liberation movement. In 1829, he even volunteered to personally assassinate Nicholas I during the coronation of the Polish crown in Warsaw. On the night of November 29, 1830, Vysocky gave the signal to start the uprising known as the November Uprising. However, when the aristocratic wing of the movement gained control after the start of the uprising, Vysocky was demoted to the rank of a simple captain and sent to the army.
Involvement in the Uprising
During the uprising, Vysocky actively participated in the military actions in Volhynia. He later returned to Warsaw, where he defended the redoubts during the siege on August 26, 1831, while holding the rank of colonel. Unfortunately, he was captured and sentenced to death, but his punishment was commuted to twenty years of hard labor in Siberia.
Pardon and Later Life
In 1857, Vysocky was pardoned and settled in Varka. He wrote his memoirs about the 1830-1831 uprising, titled "Pami?tnik Piotra Wysockiego o powstaniu 29 listopada 1830 roku." He passed away in Varka in 1875.
