Mikhail Valerievich Kuzovlev: A Comprehensive Biography

Early Life and Education

Mikhail Valerievich Kuzovlev was born on August 8, 1966, in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Oblast. He excelled academically, graduating from school with a gold medal and pursuing a degree in International Economic Relations at the prestigious Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). Kuzovlev graduated from MGIMO in 1988 (or 1989) and went on to complete his postgraduate studies there.

Early Career

In 1990, Kuzovlev joined the foreign trade center "Probusiness" as Deputy Director, later rising to Vice President. He spent the following years in various roles within Probusinessbank, culminating in his appointment as Senior Vice President in 2000.

Transition to Vneshtorgbank

In 2002 (or early 2003), Kuzovlev became Vice President of Vneshtorgbank (VTB). He also served on the boards of directors of VTB's subsidiaries, ЗАО "Agro-Cherepovets" and OAO "Training and Health Center 'Konobyevo.'"

Leadership at Guta Bank and Russian Commercial Bank

In July 2004, Kuzovlev became the official representative of VTB at Guta Bank. He was appointed Chairman of the Board of Guta Bank shortly after. In 2005, Guta Bank was transformed into VTB 24.

From 2004 (or 2005) to 2008, Kuzovlev simultaneously served as Executive Managing Director of Russian Commercial Bank in Cyprus and General Director of its associated investment fund, Arcadea Investment Fund Ltd.

Deputy President of VTB and Board Membership

In 2008, Kuzovlev was appointed Deputy President and Chairman of the Board of VTB. He was reportedly a member of the team led by Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin. In June 2010, Kuzovlev joined the Board of Directors of OAO "Russian Railways."

President of Bank of Moscow

In 2011, VTB acquired a controlling stake in Bank of Moscow. Amidst a power struggle within the bank, Kuzovlev was initially appointed as a member of the Board of Directors but was later dismissed from the board. However, after the former president, Andrei Borodin, left the country and was declared wanted, Kuzovlev was named Acting President of Bank of Moscow in April 2011. He was officially elected President in the same month.

Personal Life and Interests

Kuzovlev is fluent in English and Farsi (Persian). He is an avid tennis player.
