Biography of Mikhail Poplavsky
Early LifeMikhail Mikhailovich Poplavsky was born in the village of Mechislavka in the Kirovohrad region, Ukraine, into a peasant family. He began working at a young age, first as an assistant combine operator in a collective farm, and later as a bricklayer on the construction of rural roads. After finishing school, he enrolled in the Gorlovka Professional-Technical School No. 25 in Donetsk Oblast, where he graduated in 1968 as an electric locomotive driver. He then worked as an electric locomotive driver at Mine No. 6 in Kirovske, Donetsk Oblast.

Early Career
In 1969, Poplavsky served in the Soviet Armed Forces and was awarded the Medal "For Military Valor." After completing his military service, he graduated from the Culture School in Oleksandriya. He then worked as the director of the Velikotroyansk Village House of Culture from 1971 to 1973, where he led it to achieve top rankings in the region. He later served as the director of the Ulyanovsk District House of Culture in Kirovohrad Oblast from 1973 to 1975.
Education and Academic Career
In 1975, Poplavsky enrolled in the Kyiv State Institute of Culture, which he graduated from with honors in 1979. During his student years, he was elected as the head of the institute's trade union committee and the commander of the combined student construction teams from Kyiv in the Tyumen Oblast. After graduation, he became the Deputy Director of the Republican House of Folk Art of the Ukrainian SSR. He pursued his postgraduate studies at the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the USSR and obtained his doctoral degree in 1990 from the Leningrad Academy of Culture.
In 1993, Poplavsky was appointed as the rector of the Kyiv State Institute of Culture, where he initiated radical reforms in the training of personnel for the socio-cultural sphere. In 1997, the institute was transformed into the Kyiv State University of Culture and Arts.
Music and Entertainment
Poplavsky is also known for his involvement in the music and entertainment industry. He is the author and producer of the television children's competition "Krok do Zirok" ("Step to the Stars") and the general producer of the TV project "Nasha Pesnya" ("Our Song"). He has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the field of culture and entertainment in Ukraine.
Political Career
In addition to his academic and entertainment endeavors, Poplavsky has also been involved in politics. He served as a Member of Parliament in the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada from 2002 to 2006. He was a member of the National Agrarian Party and the leader of the International Public Organization "Union of Ukrainians of the World." He has received several state awards for his contributions to the development of Ukraine.
Later Years
In recent years, Poplavsky has focused on his academic and cultural activities. He has continued to serve as the rector of the Kyiv State University of Culture and Arts and has been recognized for his contributions to education and culture in Ukraine. He was awarded the title of People's Artist of Ukraine in 2008.
Despite his diverse career and accomplishments, Poplavsky remains humble and often refers to himself as a rector who occasionally sings. He continues to be an influential figure in the field of culture and education in Ukraine.
