Subsequently, he became the union's first-ever chairman, holding the post from 1934 to 1939. His tenure marked a significant period in the development of Belarusian literature.

Married to Maria Iosifovna, Klimkovich had a daughter named Maya Mikhailovna. After a full and impactful life, he passed away on November 5, 1954. His memory lives on, as he is buried at the military cemetery in Minsk, a testament to his literary legacy.
