Michael Hazle: American Javelin Thrower
Michael Hazle is a renowned American track and field athlete who specializes in the sport of javelin throw. He represented the United States of America at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Early Life and Career
Hazle was born in Temple, Texas, on March 22, 1979. He first began his athletic journey in track and field as a child. Hazle attended Temple High School (Texas) and graduated in 1997. He went on to attend Texas State University, where he earned a degree in 2002.
Professional Debut and Accomplishments
Hazle began his professional career in 2004 and quickly gained recognition for his talent. In his debut season, he qualified for the Olympic Trials and showcased his potential. The following year, Hazle made significant progress by placing fifth at the USA Outdoors Championships with a throw of 71.34 meters. His season best was an impressive 79.14 meters.
In 2006, Hazle claimed his first professional victory at the Chania meet with a throw of 77.09 meters. He also finished sixth at the USA Outdoor Champs, reaching a distance of 73 meters. By this point, Hazle was considered one of the top three javelin throwers in the United States.
Olympic Trials and Beijing Olympics
Hazle continued his rapid improvement and entered the 2007 season with high expectations. He triumphed at the USA Outdoor Championships and followed it with a silver medal at the Pan Am Games (75.33 meters), a gold medal at the Huelva meet (81.99 meters), and numerous other victories.
In 2008, Hazle competed in the Olympic Trials where he finished second and earned a spot on the Olympic team. He went on to post a personal best of 83.74 meters in Athens. Hazle continued his success and earned a bronze medal at the Doha meet.
However, in Beijing, Hazle's Olympic journey ended in the qualifying round.
