Biography of Mike Wengren

Drummer from Chicago, Illinois, Mike Wengren gained fame for his work with the rock band Disturbed, of which he was one of the founders. The band was formed in 1996. Wengren was born and raised in Evergreen Park, Illinois. He began playing drums at the age of 10, taking lessons for about a month, but didn't start taking music seriously until around the age of 15.

Mike Wengren has stated that his music has been heavily influenced by bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Judas Priest, Testament, Mötley Crüe, Pantera, and Racer X.

In recent years, Wengren has appeared in advertisements for Pearl Drums, as the Masters Series was his first professional drum set, purchased from Midwest Percussion in the early 90s. Wengren uses Evans Hydraulic Glass drumheads on all his drums and EQ heads on both bass drums. He has also been added to the Vater drumstick lineup, which now features a model designed by Mike Wengren. Additionally, he uses Sabian cymbals. His previous tour kit was the Pearl MRX Masters Series with black hardware. Wengren's tour kit in support of the Ten Thousand Fists album was a 'vintage sunburst' variation of the same drum set, also with black hardware.
