Biography of Mikhail Antonov
Mikhail Antonov is a Russian journalist and television host, currently heading the "Vesti" correspondent bureau in Germany. He was born on April 11, 1972, in Moscow. Antonov completed his schooling in 1989 and started working at the weekly magazine "Knizhnoye Obozreniye" (Book Review). In the fall of 1990, he was called for military service and served in the Kalevala Border Guard Unit of the Border Troops of the Kola Peninsula. In 1993, Antonov enrolled in the Faculty of Journalism at Moscow State University and graduated in 1998.
Career
During his third year at university, Antonov started working at NTV channel. In 1996, he was hired as an editor and from January 1997 to February 2000, he worked as a correspondent for the programs "Segodnya" (Today) and "Itogi" (Results) on NTV. In March 2000, following his colleagues Oleg Dobrodeev and Evgeny Revenko, Antonov moved to the state television channel RTR. Initially, he was listed as a correspondent for the news program "Vesti" (News), and after 20 days, he first appeared as a host of the daytime editions of this program. During his early days at VGTRK, he also hosted short editions of "Vesti" that aired on the "Kultura" channel.
Antonov reported on the tragedy of the Kursk submarine and the fire at the Ostankino TV tower in August 2000. He covered the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and the Beslan school siege in September 2004, as well as presidential addresses and inaugurations. He was awarded the TEFI Prize in 2003 as the Best News Program Host. Antonov was a regular host of the evening editions of "Vesti," alternating with Evgeny Revenko (2000-2001), Anna Titova (2001), Sergey Brilev (2001-2003), and Maria Sittel (2003-2006). He also hosted the radio program "Osoboye Mneniye" (Special Opinion) on "Radio Rossiya".
From May 2006 to July 2008, Antonov presented the evening editions of "Vesti" at 8:00 pm, initially with Tatiana Aleksandrova until April 28, 2007, and later with Farida Kurbangaleeva. Since September 2008, he has been the correspondent for VGTRK in Germany, heading the Berlin bureau of "Vesti," replacing Ivan Rodionov in this position.
From August 11 to 16, 2014, Antonov hosted the main evening editions of "Vesti" on Russia-1 channel.
Personal Life
Antonov is married to Anastasia and they have two children - son Maxim and daughter Victoria (born in 2005). His hobbies include playing the guitar.
