Early Life and Military Career

Mihail Petrovich Dukanovwas born on July 14, 1896 (or July 26, 1896, according to some sources), in Kyiv, Ukraine. He began his military service in the Russian Imperial Army in 1915, graduating from the 5th Kyiv School of Ensigns in 1916 and achieving the rank of lieutenant.

Interwar Period

After the Russian Revolution, Dukanov joined the Red Army in 1918 and became a member of the Communist Party. During the Russian Civil War, he served as a battalion commander, assistant chief, and then chief of the reconnaissance department of the штаб of the 14th Army.

In the interwar period, Dukanov graduated from the Red Army Military Academy in 1921. He held various staff positions, including chief of staff of the 13th Siberian Cavalry Division, 4th Separate Siberian Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Corps, and 2nd Cavalry Corps. From 1927 to 1930, he served as chief of staff of the 10th Maikop Cavalry Division.

Soviet-Finnish War and World War II

In 1939, Dukanov became the commander of the 9th Army, which participated in the Soviet-Finnish War. However, he was relieved of his command in December 1939.

At the outset of World War II, Dukanov served as assistant commander of the Northern Front and later commanded the 10th Rifle Division. The division fought in the defense of Leningrad.

Command of the 67th Army

From October 1942, Dukanov led the Nevskaya Operational Group, which was later reorganized into the 67th Army. The army held positions along the right bank of the Neva River and guarded the "Road of Life" across Lake Ladoga. Under Dukanov's command, the 67th Army participated in the Operation "Iskra" in January 1943.

Further Military Career

In August 1943, Dukanov was promoted to lieutenant general. He later served as deputy commander of the 8th Guards Army and participated in several offensive operations.

Postwar Career

After the war, Dukanov served as assistant commander of the Leningrad Military District. He retired for health reasons in 1953 and passed away on September 2, 1969, in Leningrad.
