Prince Michael Andreevich Romanov: A Legacy of Imperial Lineage
Early Life and FamilyPrince Michael Andreevich Romanov was born on July 15, 1920, in Versailles, France, to Prince Andrei Aleksandrovich and Princess Elizaveta Fabrizievna. As a descendant of Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich and Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna, he was a great-grandson of Emperor Alexander III and Empress Maria Feodorovna.
Education and Military Service
Michael Andreevich grew up in Windsor Castle, attending Windsor Royal College. In 1942, he graduated from the London Institute of Aeronautical Engineers. During World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.
Life in Australia
After the war, Michael Andreevich moved to Australia, where he worked in the aviation industry and established an aircraft equipment company. In 1980, he joined the Romanov Family Association and later became its vice-chairman.
Philanthropic Activities
Michael Andreevich was a member of the Order of Malta and the Orthodox Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. He actively supported the "Australians for Constitutional Monarchy" movement.
Marriages
Michael Andreevich married three times: to Jill Murphy in 1953, Shirley Cramond in 1954, and Julia Crespini in 1993. His second marriage lasted 29 years and ended with the passing of his wife, Shirley, in 1983.
Death and Legacy
On September 6, 2008, Michael Andreevich suffered a fatal heart attack and kidney failure following a fall at his home. His funeral service was held in Sydney and he was laid to rest in the Orthodox section of the Botany Cemetery.
Imperial Title
Michael Andreevich held the title of "Prince of Imperial Blood," which was not recognized by the "Kirillovich" branch of the Romanov family.
