Ukrainian Statesman and Regional Leader
Mykhailo Vyshnivskyi, a prominent figure in Ukrainian politics, served as the Chairman of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration twice: from 1997 to 2005 and again from April 2010 to November 7, 2013.
Early Life and Education
Born in Ukraine, Vyshnivskyi graduated from the Kolomyia Technical College of Mechanical Woodworking in 1971. After completing his military service from 1971 to 1973, he pursued a degree in mechanical engineering at Dnipropetrovsk Agricultural Institute. In 1999, he graduated from the Law Faculty of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University.
Professional Experience
Vyshnivskyi began his career in 1974 and held various leadership positions. Prior to entering government service, he worked in the production sector for 26 years, primarily in agriculture. In 1981, he led the Stepan Melnychuk Collective Farm, which he successfully transformed into one of the first joint-stock companies in Ukraine.
Political Career
From 1992 to 1997, Vyshnivskyi chaired the regional council of agricultural producers. In 1995, he became an advisor to the President of Ukraine on agricultural issues, while also serving on the Commission on Agrarian and Land Reform from 1995 to 1999. He was first appointed Chairman of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration in 1997, a position he held until 2005.
Second Governorship and Later Career
In 2010, President Viktor Yanukovych reappointed Vyshnivskyi as Chairman of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration. He was also elected to the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council in the local elections that year. On November 7, 2013, he was dismissed from his position and appointed as an advisor to the President of Ukraine until February 25, 2014.
Awards and Honors
Vyshnivskyi has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including:
- State Prize of Ukraine in Architecture (1992 and 2001)
- Medal for Labor Distinction (1986)- Order of Merit of Ukraine, 3rd and 2nd degrees (1996 and 1999)
- Order of Honor of Georgia (2003)
