Mikko Lehtonen is a Finnish ice hockey player who currently plays as a right winger for the Swedish team "Örebro" on loan. He was developed by the "Espoo Blues" club and is currently playing for "Djurgården".

Mikko Lehtonen

Lehtonen began his professional career in 2004 with the "Espoo Blues" in the Finnish SM-League after playing for their farm club. In the following year, he was selected in the 3rd round, 83rd overall, by the "Boston Bruins" in the NHL draft. On May 31, 2007, Lehtonen signed a two-way contract with the "Boston Bruins", but he only went to North America after the end of the 2007/08 season, where he became a silver medalist in the Finnish championship.

Lehtonen made his NHL debut on April 11, 2009, in a game against the "Buffalo Sabres", which ended in a 6-1 defeat for the Bruins. However, during his two years overseas, Mikko only played in 2 NHL games and mainly appeared for the Bruins' farm club, the "Providence Bruins". In 2010, Lehtonen participated in the AHL All-Star game. However, he decided to spend the 2010/11 season in Europe with the Swedish Elite League team "Skellefteå". On February 28, 2011, while Lehtonen was in Sweden, his rights were traded to the "Minnesota Wild" in exchange for Anton Khudobin, making Mikko part of the trade.

The 2010/11 season was very successful for Lehtonen as he won the silver medal in the Swedish championship with "Skellefteå", becoming the top scorer of the tournament and the top foreign scorer in the Elite League. On May 4, 2011, Mikko signed a contract with the "Severstal" team in Cherepovets, becoming the first Finnish legionnaire in the club's history.

Mikko Lehtonen has also represented the Finnish national team in various international tournaments, including the 2005 World Junior Championship and the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championships, where he won bronze and became the top scorer, respectively. He has also been called up to represent Finland in the Euro Hockey Tour in the 2007/08 and 2010/11 seasons.
