Mimi Kodheli, an accomplished Albanian politician, etched her name in history as the nation's first female Minister of Defense, serving from 2013 to 2017.
Early Life and Education
Born in Tirana on September 11, 1964, Mimi Kodheli pursued her higher education at the University of Tirana, graduating in 1986 with a degree in finance from the Faculty of Economics.
Political Journey
In 2002, Kodheli embarked on her political career as Deputy Mayor of Tirana Municipality. Her leadership qualities propelled her to the role of Prefect of Tirana District in 2005. A year later, she was elected to the Parliament of Albania and became Deputy Chair of the Economic and Finance Committee. Since 2007, Kodheli has been an active member of the Socialist Party of Albania's leadership.
Minister of Defense
On September 15, 2013, Mimi Kodheli made history by becoming the first woman to hold the position of Minister of Defense in Albania. Her tenure saw her actively contribute to the modernization of the nation's defense capabilities.
Controversy and Recognition
In 2014, Kodheli's intent to award Defense Ministry medals to Nejmje Hoxha, widow of former Albanian communist leader Enver Hoxha, and Rita Marko, a long-standing member of the Hoxhaist party leadership, sparked controversy. Subsequently, both individuals declined the honors.

Mimi Kodheli is married to Leka, and they have a son named Mikel. She is fluent in English and Italian, and has proficiency in French and Spanish.
