Mirza Davud Huseynov: Revolutionary Socialist and Martyr of Baku

Mirza Davud Huseynov, born in 1889 in Shusha, was a prominent socialist-revolutionary and one of the 26 Baku Commissars.

Early Life and Education

Huseynov's father was a renowned teacher, and he came from a privileged background. However, his political activism began early in his life when he joined the revolutionary movement as a high school student. He faced frequent persecution and imprisonment by the Tsarist government.

Political Career

Huseynov was an active participant in the 1917-18 revolutionary events in Azerbaijan, aligning himself with the Socialist Revolutionary Party (SR). Despite his affiliation with the SRs, he closely collaborated with the Bolsheviks after 1917.

In November 1917, he became a member of the Executive Committee of the Baku Soviet, and in 1918, he was appointed the People's Commissar of Agriculture in the Baku Commune. In May 1918, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Council of Peasant Deputies of Baku.

Revolutionary Legacy

One of Huseynov's most significant achievements was his role in the implementation of the decree on land confiscation, signed by the Baku Council of People's Commissars under his banner. This decree transferred property from landlords to peasants, cementing his status as a champion of agrarian reform.

Tragic End

On September 20, 1918, Huseynov was among the 26 Baku Commissars executed by counter-revolutionary forces. He became a martyr for the cause of social justice and revolution, leaving behind a lasting legacy of political activism and sacrifice.
