Early Life and Family BackgroundMira Awad, an Israeli singer and actress of Arab-Bulgarian descent, was born in Carmiel and raised in the village of Rama in northern Galilee. Her father was an Arab doctor, while her mother, Snezhanka, was a Bulgarian-born activist for women's rights. Awad currently resides in Tel Aviv.
Education and Theatrical Career
Awad studied at the Center for Jazz and Contemporary Music in Israel. She has been involved in theater productions, notably at the Cameri Theater, which focused on the Arab-Israeli conflict. She has also participated in various film and television projects.
Eurovision Journey
In 2002, Awad began collaborating with Noa (Achinoam Nini), a renowned Israeli folk singer. In 2009, the duo represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Einaych" ("Your Eyes"), also known as "There Must Be Another Way." This decision sparked controversy among Jewish and Arab nationalists in Israel.
Eurovision Performance
Along with Noa, Awad represented Israel at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, performing "There Must Be Another Way." The song garnered the 16th place in the competition.
