Miriam Neureuther: A German Sports Icon
Early Years and CareerMiriam Neureuther (née Gössner) was born on June 21, 1990, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. She quickly emerged as a promising athlete in both cross-country skiing and biathlon.
Junior World Championships and Olympic Success
In 2008, Gössner won her first world championship title in the junior biathlon relay in Ruhpolding. The following year, she claimed the silver medal in the sprint and won the pursuit despite eight shooting misses at the junior world championships in Alberta, Canada.
Her impressive skiing pace caught the attention of German cross-country coaches, leading to her selection for the German team at the 2009 FIS World Championships. She played a pivotal role in the team's silver medal win in the relay.
Transition to Biathlon
Despite a lackluster start to the 2009/2010 biathlon World Cup, Gössner's Olympic hopes were pinned on the cross-country team. Her performance culminated in a historic silver medal in the women's 4x5km relay at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
Return to Biathlon and World Championships Triumph
After the Olympics, Gössner returned to biathlon and clinched her first world championship medal, a gold in the relay, in 2012. She also secured another gold and a bronze medal in subsequent world championships.
Personal Life and Other Achievements
Beyond sports, Gössner is proficient in English and Norwegian. She has been sponsored by Red Bull since 2011 and has graced the cover of Playboy magazine.
In 2012, she scaled Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Western Europe. She later moved to Norway, her mother's homeland, while continuing to represent Germany in competitions.
Relationship and Family
In 2013, Gössner began dating alpine skier Felix Neureuther. They welcomed a daughter, Matilda, in 2017 and married later that year.
