Witold Gonsorek: Polish Pianist and Composer
Born in Poland, Witold Gonsorek is an accomplished pianist and composer. He graduated from the Wrocław Academy of Music and privately studied composition with Witold Lutosławski for eight years.
Musical Accomplishments
Gonsorek has won several national and international competitions, including the "Jeunesses musicales" composers competition in Belgrade in 1978. His compositions have garnered attention, particularly his cantatas such as "Saint Hedwig of Silesia" (1993) and the oratorio "Helmuth James von Moltke" (1989). Additionally, he has written chamber music, piano pieces, and film scores.
Performance Career
As a pianist, Gonsorek has performed with the Wrocław Piano Trio and with German pianist Liana Bertok. He recorded Antoni Stolpe's piano works for the "Antoni Stolpe - Opera Omnia" project and collaborated with violinist Konstanty Kulka on Beethoven and Brahms violin sonatas.
Educational and Leadership Roles
Gonsorek serves as Artistic Director of several music festivals in Wrocław. He has been awarded the honorary title of Honorary Cultural Merited Worker (1990). His contributions to the music world continue to inspire and enrich the cultural landscape.
