Early Life and Education

In 1887, the Spanish pianist was admitted to the prestigious Paris Conservatory. There, he honed his skills under the tutelage of Charles-Wilfrid Bériot (piano), Albert Lavignac (harmony), and Benjamin Godard (chamber music).

International Acclaim

In 1894, V. received the coveted Premier Prix at the Conservatory's graduation exams. His subsequent debut at the Salle Pleyel launched his international career. He embarked on tours across Russia, Germany, and beyond.

South American Interlude

During the early 1920s, V. performed extensively in South America. In 1930, he settled in Argentina, where he resided until 1936. He continued his concert tours throughout the region, often gracing Chile and Uruguay with his presence.

Return to Paris and Legacy

Upon his return to Paris in 1936, V. resumed his illustrious career. His impeccable technique and vast repertoire, which included the works of French, Spanish, Russian, and Latin American composers, made him a respected figure in the music world.

Champion of New Music

V. was instrumental in introducing new works by composers such as Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, Érik Satie, Déodat de Séverac, and Manuel de Falla. He premiered Debussy's "Goldfish," de Falla's "Nights in the Gardens of Spain," and Satie's "Cold Pieces," among other notable compositions.

Virtuoso and Educator

V. also made a significant contribution as a pedagogue. Among his students were renowned pianists such as Marcel Meyer, Joaquín Nin-Culmell, and Francis Poulenc. His own compositions include a number of romances and piano pieces.

Legacy and Recordings

V.'s artistry was captured through a series of recordings, which have since been released on cassettes and compact discs. These recordings showcase his exceptional virtuosity, rhythmic precision, and unique approach to pedaling.
