Early Life and Education

Mirza Ismayilovich Ibrahimov, an Uzbek and Soviet statesman of Kyrgyz ethnicity, was born in 1928 in Ozok village, Yangikurgan district. From 1943, he worked as a school teacher in Yangikurgan district, Namangan region. Ibrahimov joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1948 and began his career in the Komsomol youth organization in 1949. In 1951, he graduated from the Fergana Pedagogical Institute.

Political Career in Uzbekistan

From 1952 to 1958, Ibrahimov served as Secretary of the Central Committee of the Komsomol of Uzbekistan. From April 1958 to February 1963, he held the position of First Secretary of the Komsomol Central Committee. Subsequently, he was Second Secretary of the Fergana rural regional committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan from January 1963 to December 1964. From 1964 to 1968, he was Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Fergana Regional Council.

Between 1968 and 1973, Ibrahimov became Minister of Cotton Ginning Industry in the Uzbek SSR. He graduated from the Tashkent Institute of National Economy in 1972. From 1973 onward, he held the post of First Secretary of the Namangan Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan. In 1976, Ibrahimov became Chairman of the State Committee of the Uzbek SSR for Physical Culture and Sports.

Contributions to Sports and Diplomacy

Ibrahimov played an active role in supporting the families of deceased Pakhtakor footballers and initiated the invitation of coach Istvan Sekec to the club. From 1988, he served as Permanent Representative of the Council of Ministers of the Uzbek SSR to the Council of Ministers of the USSR.

Presidency of the Uzbek SSR

From March 6, 1989, to March 24, 1990, Ibrahimov was Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek SSR. He became Chairman of the Supreme Soviet from March 26, 1990, until June 12, 1991, when he was released from his position "due to health reasons."

Legacy

Mirza Ismayilovich Ibrahimov was the second state leader of Kyrgyz descent, after Iskak Razzakov, to make significant contributions to the development of Uzbekistan. He was elected as a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek SSR on several occasions.
