Mitch Kupchak: A Biography

Mitch Kupchak was born on May 24, 1954, in Hicksville, New York. He began playing basketball at a young age and quickly became the leader of his high school team at Brentwood High School. Under his leadership, the team won numerous awards in their division for three years.

After graduating from high school, Kupchak had the opportunity to attend any university or college in America, but he chose the University of North Carolina, fulfilling his childhood dream. The university's basketball team, the North Carolina Tar Heels, is one of the most successful and talent-rich college basketball teams in America.

In 1976, Kupchak was selected to be a part of the US national basketball team, which won the gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Montreal that same year. Shortly after, he began his professional career in the NBA. His first team was the Washington Bullets, later renamed the Washington Wizards. In his rookie season, Kupchak was selected to the NBA All-Rookie Team, and in 1978, he won the NBA championship with the team.
