Jamont Gordon, an American professional basketball player, was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He attended Glencliff Comprehensive High School, where he excelled in basketball. After graduating, he was highly sought after by college scouts, with Rivals.com ranking him as the 16th-best player in the nation.

Gordon committed to Mississippi State University, where he played for the Bulldogs. As a freshman, he led the team in scoring (13.8 points per game) and assists (4.3 assists per game). He was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and Parade All-American Second Team. In his sophomore year, he became a starting small forward, averaging 16.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game. He earned All-SEC Second Team honors from the AP and All-SEC First Team accolades from the coaches' poll.
