Early Life and Career in the Middle East
Moatasem, an Egyptian entrepreneur, embarked on a 15-year career in Dubai before immigrating with his family to Canada in August 2019, just months prior to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Establishing and Pivoting Yellow Box
Upon his arrival in Canada, Moatasem founded Yellow Box, a company specializing in foldable outdoor stools. However, the pandemic forced him to rethink his strategy as lockdowns confined people indoors. The company's products were donated to charity, and Yellow Box ceased operations in May 2020.
Transitioning into the Courier Industry
Undeterred, Moatasem surveyed the market and identified a void in the local courier industry. He launched MyCourier in July 2020, offering personalized and flexible delivery services tailored to the changing work schedules imposed by the pandemic.
Partnership with Amazon and Recognition
Moatasem's entrepreneurial experience, including managing startups in the Middle East, proved valuable. He contacted Amazon, the world's largest retailer, and successfully pitched his services. MyCourier became an approved delivery partner for Amazon in downtown Toronto.
Expansion and Accolades
Today, MyCourier employs approximately 100 drivers and serves both Amazon and numerous independent retailers. In 2022, Moatasem was recognized as the "Entrepreneur of the Year" by the Oakville Chamber of Commerce. Plans are underway to expand MyCourier's operations into Quebec.
