Early Life and Club Career
Mohamed Aboutrika was born on November 7, 1978, in Cairo, Egypt. At the age of 17, he began his professional career with Al-Tersana, a club in the Egyptian Second Division. In his first season, he became the club's top scorer and helped them gain promotion to the Egyptian Premier League.
Rise to Prominence at Al-Ahly
In 2003, Aboutrika joined Al-Ahly, one of the most successful and wealthy clubs in Africa. With Al-Ahly, he won numerous trophies, including 23 Egyptian Premier League titles and 5 CAF Champions League titles.
International Career
Aboutrika made his international debut for Egypt in 2001. He played a pivotal role in Egypt's victories at the 2006 and 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring decisive goals in both finals. He also represented Egypt at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Retirement and Legacy
Aboutrika retired from football in 2012 following a riot during an Al-Ahly match. He is widely recognized as one of the greatest African midfielders of all time and was named the IFFHS World's Most Popular Footballer on several occasions.
Education and Personal Life
Beyond football, Aboutrika holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Cairo University. He is also known for his charitable work, donating funds to organizations supporting children with cancer. Aboutrika is married and has twin children.
