Biography of Monica McCarthy

Monica McCarthy is a British writer who is known for her works in the genre of Scottish literature. Born in California, she is half Mexican and half British. From a young age, Monica developed a passion for reading and spent much of her time at home immersed in books. After reading popular novels such as "The Hobbit," "The Chronicles of Narnia," and books by Judy Blume, Monica turned her attention to her mother's bookshelf. It was there that she discovered Sidney Sheldon's novel "The Other Side of Midnight," which sparked her curiosity and led her to seek out more romantic novels, particularly those by Barbara Cartland.

Despite her initial interest in pursuing a career in the arts, Monica's lack of vocal talent and limited success in dance redirected her focus towards literature. In high school, following her father's advice, she delved into world classics, reading works by Shakespeare, Confucius, and Tolstoy. Monica proudly proclaimed that she had read Leo Tolstoy's "War and Peace" cover to cover, feeling fearless in the face of daunting literary challenges.

After completing high school, Monica enrolled at the University of Southern California, where she studied political science and English literature. During this time, she also played baseball, supported the university football team, and frequented local bars. She continued her education at Stanford University, where she obtained a law degree, formed lasting friendships, and met her beloved husband. Surprisingly, Monica's legal studies ultimately led her to explore the history of Scotland. While taking a course on historical law, she wrote a paper on Scottish clan and feudal legislation.

Following her graduation, Monica married and worked as a lawyer in Minnesota and California, while also raising two children. As her husband's career required extensive travel, Monica dedicated herself to raising their children and found solace in writing during her free time. In 2007, her debut novel, "Highlander Untamed," was published by Ballantine. The book was the first in the "MacLeods of Skye" trilogy, which also included "Highlander Unmasked" and "Highlander Unchained." The success of this trilogy led Monica to begin a new series called the "Campbells," which also focused on the turbulent events of Scottish history and the love between the gallant Highlander Jamie Campbell and the enchanting Catherine Lamont, a member of an enemy clan.

Currently, Monica McCarthy is working on her most popular series of novels, "A Highland Guard." The series includes titles such as "The Chief," "The Raider," and the forthcoming "The Arrow." Her books have been published in Russian by AST Publishing, with complete trilogies available for the MacLeod and Campbell series, as well as the first three books of the "Highland Guard" series. Monica's novels, such as "In the Fire of Passion" and "My Enemy's Daughter," are highly regarded by readers for their vivid and unconventional heroines, engaging writing style, and the perfect blend of romance and sensuality. Fans eagerly await the release of her new works and their translations.
