Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba

Moriteru Ueshiba, the third Doshu (Grandmaster) of the Aikido Federation, has held this esteemed position since 1999 and continues to do so as of 2018.

Early Life and Education

Born in Tokyo, Moriteru Ueshiba inherited the title of Doshu on January 4, 1999, after the passing of his father, Kisshomaru Ueshiba. He is the grandson of Aikido's founder, Morihei Ueshiba. Moriteru Ueshiba pursued a degree in Economics at Meiji Gakuin University.

Aikido Involvement

In 1986, Moriteru Ueshiba assumed the role of Dojo-cho (Chief Instructor) of the Hombu Dojo. Thirteen years later, he became the Chairman of the Aikido Federation. He has authored the book "Progressive Aikido" and co-authored the "Best Aikido" series with his father, including "The Fundamentals" and "The Aikido Master Course: Best Aikido 2."

Legacy

As the current Doshu, Moriteru Ueshiba is expected to pass on the title to his son, Mitsuteru Ueshiba.

Awards and Recognition

In 2009, Moriteru Ueshiba received the Russian Order of Friendship for his contributions to strengthening cultural ties between Russia and Japan.
