Mortimer Zuckerman, the largest American publisher, is the founder of the popular New York newspaper "Daily News" and the editor-in-chief of "U.S. News & World Report." Born on June 4, 1937, in Montreal, Canada, Zuckerman is one of the most prominent American publishers. He is also involved in real estate sales and acquisitions. Although Zuckerman is of Jewish descent, he currently holds American citizenship. In 2008, he ranked 188th in Forbes' list of the richest Americans.

Early Life and Education

Mortimer Zuckerman spent his early childhood in Canada before moving to the United States. At the age of sixteen, he enrolled at McGill University, graduating from the institution in 1957. He then pursued further education at the University of Pennsylvania, earning a bachelor's degree. In 1962, Zuckerman was accepted into Harvard, where he also obtained an advanced degree.

Career

After completing his higher education, Zuckerman remained at Harvard's business school as a professor for nine years. He also taught at Yale University concurrently. Following his academic career, he joined the real estate firm "Cabot & Forbes," where he eventually rose to the positions of vice president and financial director. In 1980, Zuckerman acquired the literary magazine "Atlantic Monthly," becoming the chairman of the board of directors from 1980 to 1999. In 1999, he sold the magazine to David Bradley for $12 million. Additionally, Zuckerman purchased "U.S. News & World Report," where he currently holds a prominent role.

Political Views and Philanthropy

Mortimer Zuckerman aligns himself with conservative values, although he has occasionally supported Republican candidates. In 1995, he contributed $1,000 to Senator John Warner's election campaign. In 2006, he donated $10,000 to Senator Joe Lieberman's campaign. Zuckerman actively advocates for strengthening American-Israeli relations and holds a negative stance on the war in Iraq. He strives to support Jewish parties and communities. As of now, Zuckerman's net worth is estimated at $2.3 billion, placing him at 524th on Forbes' list of the world's wealthiest individuals.
