Murad Muradian: Armenian Political and Statesman
Murad Oganesovich Muradian (born October 26, 1930, Gyumri, Armenian SSR) was a prominent Armenian political and statesman.
Early Life and Education
Muradian graduated from high school in 1948 and enrolled in the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the Mkhitar Nalbandian Leninakan Pedagogical Institute, graduating with honors in 1953. He worked as a high school mathematics and physics teacher from 1953 to 1958.
In 1962, Muradian obtained a degree in Machine Tools and Instrumentation Technology from the Moscow Machine-Building Institute, becoming a mechanical engineer.
Career in Industry
From 1958 to 1963, Muradian held various positions at the Leninakan Machine Tool Plant, including engineer, chief of department, head of laboratory, and deputy director for production.
Political Career
Muradian was appointed Director of the Micromotor Plant in 1964 and Head of the Department of Industry, Transport, and Construction of the Leninakan City Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia in 1965.
In 1967, he became Deputy Head of the Department of Light and Food Industry of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia. The same year, he was elected Second Secretary and First Secretary of the Leninakan City Committee of the party in 1968.
Muradian was a delegate to the 24th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (8th and 9th convocations) and the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR (10th and 11th convocations).
From May 1975 to December 1985, he served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Yerevan City Council. In 1985, he was elected a member of the Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Armenian SSR.
Economic Leadership
From 1988 to 1991, Muradian was the Chairman of ArmCoop. He also served as the Chairman of the "Gyumri-Veratsnund" Public Organization.
