Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Jr., known as N.T.R. Jr., was born in Hyderabad, India, on May 20, 1983. As the grandson of the legendary actor and politician N.T.R. Sr., he was destined for stardom. His father, Nandamuri Harikrishna, was also a politician and film artist.

N.T.R. Jr. attended Vidyaranya High School and Vignan Engineering College but dropped out due to poor academic performance. Instead, he pursued his passion for Kuchipudi, a classical Indian dance form.
