Early Life and Education
Hopeful Beginnings:Nadiya Barayeva was born on September 30, 1919, in Baku. Driven by a passion for the stage, she enrolled in the State Institute of Theater Arts in 1938 but her studies were disrupted by World War II. In 1945, she resumed her acting studies under the guidance of E.S. Telesheva, graduating in 1948. Simultaneously, she completed the directing program under I.Y. Sudakov.
Theatrical Journey
From Actress to Director:Barayeva's early career took her from the stage of the Balakhna Theater in 1948 to a directing position at the Rostov-on-Don Comedy Theater in 1950. During a tour in 1954, she made her debut in Moldova, captivating audiences with her productions.
Moldovan Roots:
In 1956, overcoming bureaucratic obstacles, Barayeva relocated to Chișinău, where she became a director at the Moldovan National Theater named after A.S. Pushkin. She also left her mark on the Russian Theater named after A.P. Chekhov in the capital city.
Founding "Luchafarul"
A New Dawn:From 1960 to 1963, Barayeva served as the chief director of the newly established "Luchafarul" Theater (Morning Star). She nurtured a company of graduates from Moscow and Chișinău's theater schools.
Nurturing Young Talent
Educator and Mentor:In 1965, Barayeva established the first Russian acting course at the Chișinău Institute of Arts named after G. Muzichescu. She arranged for her students to spend half of their curriculum at the renowned Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music, and Cinematography.
Creation of the Tiraspol Theater
Birth of a New Ensemble:In 1969, Barayeva moved to Tiraspol with her students and founded the Tiraspol Theater. The theater's inaugural performance on March 26, 1970, marked a pivotal moment in its history.
Critical Acclaim:
The Tiraspol Theater quickly gained recognition from prominent theater critics, journalists, and cultural figures. Its performances were featured in prestigious publications and toured to Chișinău, Odessa, and Moscow.
Continuing Legacy
Deserving Recognition:In 1978, Barayeva was bestowed the title of Honored Artist of the Moldavian SSR. Her contributions to Moldovan theater arts continue to inspire and shape the art form to this day.
