Early Life and Career
Rajinikanth, an Indian actor, was born in Bangalore as one of many children raised by a police officer. His mother passed away when he was five, leading him to work as a coolie to support himself. After completing his primary education in Kannada, Rajinikanth held various jobs from 1966 to 1973, including as a bus conductor. During this time, he also participated in amateur stage plays.
Entry into Film Industry
In 1973, Rajinikanth moved to Madras and enrolled in the Madras Film Institute, where he was noticed by director K. Balachander. Following Balachander's advice to master Tamil, Rajinikanth made his film debut in 1975 with a minor supporting role in "Apoorva Raagangal."
Tamil Film Career
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Rajinikanth primarily starred in Tamil films, often portraying negative characters such as villains and ruthless gangsters. An exception was the 1980 film "Murattu Kaalai." In 1983, he made his debut in Hindi cinema with "Andha Kanoon."
Rise to Stardom
Rajinikanth's breakthrough came with the 1992 film "Annamalai," a remake of the Hindi film "Khudgarz." The film's success led to the iconic line "Rajni Superstar" appearing in subsequent films, solidifying his status as an influential cult figure.
Bollywood and Recognition
Rajinikanth's career expanded into Bollywood with his role in the 2010 film "Robot," where he played the dual role of a professor and his robot creation, Chitti. The film became the highest-grossing Indian film of the year and earned Rajinikanth further accolades and recognition.
Personal Life
Rajinikanth married Latha Rangachari in 1981, whom he had originally interviewed for a student magazine. They have two daughters, Aishwarya and Soundarya. Aishwarya married actor Dhanush in 2004, while Soundarya is a filmmaker, producer, and graphic designer. Rajinikanth has three grandchildren: Yathra and Linga from Aishwarya and Ved Krishna from Soundarya.
Political Ambitions and Continuation of Acting
In 2017, Rajinikanth expressed his intention to enter politics after completing the films "2.0" and "Kaala." However, he continued to act in subsequent films despite the initial announcement. His recent notable works include "Kabali" (2016) and "Darbar" (2020).
