Nadir Ibragimov: Azerbaijani and Soviet Astrophysicist

Nadir Ibragimov was an eminent Azerbaijani and Soviet astrophysicist who made significant contributions to the field of planetary atmosphere physics.

Early Life and Education

Ibragimov was born on December 28, 1932, in the city of Guba, Azerbaijan. He completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown. In 1956, he graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the Azerbaijan State University.

Career in Astrophysics

After graduating, Ibragimov joined the astrophysics sector of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR. Under the guidance of Academician G.F. Sultanov, he focused on studying the atmospheres of various planets in the Solar System.

Discovery of Molecules on Mars

One of Ibragimov's most significant achievements was his groundbreaking discovery of molecules on Mars. While examining craters on the planet's surface, he discovered the presence of molecules forming the basis of inorganic compounds, such as metals. These findings were subsequently confirmed by international astronomical observations and accepted by the International Astronomical Union.

International Recognition

In recognition of his groundbreaking discovery, the International Astronomical Union honored Ibragimov by naming a crater on Mars after him. This gesture at the General Assembly held in August 1982 marked his lasting legacy in the field of planetary exploration.
