Biography of Nalina Sokolova

Nalina Sokolova, a member of the underground organization "Young Guard", was born on March 14, 1900, in the city of Tallinn, in a working-class family. At a young age, she experienced sorrow, losing her mother at the age of three and her father at the age of six.

During the years of the Civil War, Nalina Sokolova embarked on a challenging path as part of the legendary Chapaev Division. She made a significant contribution to the restoration of the devastated national economy in Saratov, where she worked in the apparatus of the Komsomol city committee and later in the organs of the workers' and peasants' militia.

In 1930, she moved to different cities in the Donbass region with her husband, F.F. Sokolov, a professional miner. From 1931, she worked in the "Donbassenergo" No. 3 system in the city of Krasnodon and was elected chairwoman of the city council of women-social activists.

On the eve of the occupation of Krasnodon, the district party committee proposed to include Nalina Georgievna Sokolova in the underground party organization as a reliable, dedicated, and proactive person. She had direct contact with F.P. Lyutikov, from whom she took leaflets, Soviet newspapers, and reports from Sovinformburo.

Nalina Sokolova acted as a liaison between the party organization and the underground Komsomol, carrying out tasks for the "Young Guard" headquarters. She also distributed leaflets herself, often near the market area.

On January 6, 1943, Nalina Sokolova was arrested. Months later, her husband learned from a woman who had been in the same cell as Nalina Georgievna that she had been beaten with a whip on the first day of her arrest. She was supposed to receive 25 lashes but could only endure 20 before losing consciousness and being thrown into a cell. Her back was covered in welts and burned. Nalina Sokolova fell ill and was unable to get up until the very last evening when she, along with other arrested members of the underground, was taken for execution. On January 15, this fearless patriot was shot and thrown into a mine shaft. She was buried in a mass grave of heroes on the central square of Krasnodon.

Nalina Sokolova's bravery and dedication to the cause of the "Young Guard" and the Soviet Union will always be remembered as a symbol of resistance and patriotism.
