Early Life and Education

Nardi Suxo was born in La Paz, Bolivia on February 23, 1961, to Humberto Suxo and Yolanda Angelica Iturri Gutierrez. She began her formal education in 1967 and graduated with a baccalaureate degree in La Paz in 1978. She enrolled at the Higher University of San Andrés in 1979, graduating with a law degree in 1985. She later earned a degree in sociology and a diploma in human rights from the University Carlos III of Madrid. Throughout her career, she has held various positions, including director of the Carter Center in Bolivia, Second Deputy Delegate for Human Rights at the Ombudsman's Office, and Director of the Institute for Legal Research at the Bolivian Catholic University.

Minister of Institutional Transparency and Fight against Corruption

Upon Evo Morales' election as President of Bolivia, Nardi Suxo was among the first ministers appointed to the Movement for Socialism (MAS) government. On January 23, 2006, Morales assigned her the newly created Ministry of Institutional Transparency and Fight against Corruption. She remained in this position for nine years, becoming one of the longest-serving ministers (along with Luis Alberto Arce Catacora, David Choquehuanca, and Roberto Ivan Aguilar Gomez).

During her tenure, the government recovered approximately 800 million Bolivianos (115 million USD), and over 100 civil servants were convicted of corrupt practices. Public awareness campaigns were also conducted, with the "Caravan of Transparency" visiting various cities to provide educational programs. Suxo stepped down as Minister of Transparency on January 22, 2015, and was succeeded by Lenny Valdivia.

Diplomatic Career

On March 24, 2015, Nardi Suxo presented herself before the Senate to become the country's representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva. She formally presented her credentials as Permanent Representative on May 13, 2015. In 2018, she was nominated to become a judge on the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. However, the attempt failed after it met with strong objections from opposition parties and groups alleging that she had been evasive in addressing corruption cases involving high-ranking government officials.

On May 22, 2019, in a closed session, the Bolivian Senate appointed Suxo as Bolivia's ambassador to Austria, concurrently serving in Croatia, Hungary, and Slovakia. She was sworn in as ambassador on June 2, 2019, by Bolivian Foreign Minister Diego Pary Rodriguez. She was dismissed from her post in these countries on November 15, 2019, after Evo Morales was forcibly removed from office by the military and police.
