Natacha Bouchart: A Prominent French Politician

Early Life and Career

Natacha Bouchart, born on May 29, 1963, in Lens, France, has a diverse heritage with an Armenian father and a Polish mother. She graduated with a degree in human resources management before entering politics.

Political Emergence

In 2008, Bouchart's center-right alliance emerged victorious in the municipal elections in Calais, ending the 37-year communist rule. Her triumph was partly attributed to support from the National Front, but Bouchart distanced herself from the far-right party.

Electoral Successes

Despite unsuccessful bids for the National Assembly in 2002 and 2007, Bouchart was elected to the Senate in 2011. In 2015, she led the right-wing list in the newly formed Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie region (later renamed Hauts-de-France) and became its 5th Vice President.

Resigning Senatorship to Focus on Regional Role

Due to legal restrictions prohibiting multiple elected mandates, Bouchart resigned from the Senate in 2016 to focus on her role as Vice President of the Hauts-de-France Regional Council.
