Early Life and Influences

Nathan "Karma" Cox's passion for filmmaking began at a tender age. Using a borrowed camera and Star Wars figurines, he crafted short films throughout his high school years. Inspired by graffiti and graphic arts, he enrolled at Otis/Parsons School of Art and Design, where he honed his skills and actively participated in any opportunity related to videography. Beyond his interest in filmmaking, Cox harbors a deep fascination for graffiti, monsters, classic horror, and music, evident in his numerous tattoos.

The "Karma" Moniker

Cox's nickname "Karma" originated within his graffiti crew. His connection to Korn vocalist Jonathan Davis extended to being the namesake of Davis's son. Cox also forged close ties with bands like Orgy and Coal Chamber. He is an avid fan of Deadsy, and his cameo appearance in Linkin Park's "In the End" music video features him decoding a Masonic cipher, revealing the band name.

Recognition and Collaborations

Despite not achieving the same level of fame as certain music video directors, Cox has garnered critical acclaim, including two MTV Video Music Awards. His signature dreadlocks became a defining feature until he cut them in 2006. Since then, Cox has collaborated with director Zack Merck under the production team Fort Awesome. Together, they have created videos for bands such as Lacuna Coil and Bleeding Through.

Awards and Nominations

Cox has received significant recognition for his work, earning 11 nominations and winning two awards. His notable honors include:

MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock Video (2006)

MTV Video Music Award for Best Editing (2006)
