Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah
Early Life and EducationNawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was born on June 25, 1937, in Kuwait City. He is the sixth son of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the tenth Emir of Kuwait. After completing his secondary education, he pursued higher education in the United Kingdom.
Governmental Career
Governor of Hawalli(1962-1978): Nawaf was appointed Governor of the Hawalli Governorate in 1962, focusing on improving security and increasing street patrols.
Minister of Interior(1978-1988; 2003-2006): As Minister of Interior, he initiated a comprehensive reform of the police force and the ministry's structure.
Minister of Defense(1988-1991): Nawaf was responsible for arms procurement, military preparedness, and sending personnel abroad for advanced training.
Minister of Social Affairs and Labor(1991-1992): He established a state-of-the-art hospital for the elderly during his tenure.
Deputy Commander of the National Guard(1994-2003): Nawaf promoted cultural awareness within the National Guard and encouraged youth military service.
Deputy Prime Minister(2003-2006): He served as Deputy Prime Minister and First Deputy Prime Minister from 2003 to 2006.
Emir of Kuwait
Accession(2020): Following the death of his brother, Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Nawaf was declared the 16th Emir of Kuwait on September 29, 2020.
Personal Life
Nawaf is married to Sheikha Sharifa bint Suleiman Al-Jassem. They have four sons and one daughter:
