Nell Carter was a popular American singer, actress in film and television. She was born on September 13, 1948, in Birmingham, Alabama. Growing up in a large family, Nell faced a difficult childhood. The family constantly struggled with financial and food problems, which forced her to work hard just to have enough money for food. Nell had to rely on her own strength as her father died from an electrical shock.

At the age of 16, Nell was sexually assaulted, resulting in her becoming pregnant. At 17, she gave birth to her daughter Tracy, whom she loved dearly throughout her life.

In 1974, Nell Carter made her debut on the big screen in the film "The Corn Is Green." Prior to that, she had been involved in Broadway productions and musicals. In 1978, she reached the peak of her popularity, with notable roles in films such as "Hair," "Back Roads," and "Modern Problems." She primarily played roles that required strong vocal abilities, with most of her characters singing and dancing. Nell Carter captivated America with her voice, enchanting audiences with her immense energy and charisma, qualities only found in highly talented individuals.

In the mid-1980s, Nell Carter married George Kraynick. She also converted from Catholicism to Judaism. In 1985, she attempted suicide by taking a large dose of drugs, but medical intervention saved her life. In 1989, her brother passed away from AIDS, which negatively affected her unstable mental state.
Nell Carter adored children throughout her life. In addition to her biological daughter, she had two adopted sons. In her final stage of her career, she participated in low-budget films, no longer enjoying the previous popularity and fame. She experienced several unsuccessful marriages and spent her last years alone.
