Early Career and Breakthrough in Argentina
Juan Pablo Sorín is an Argentine footballer and coach who played as a defender. He began his professional career with Quilmes in 1991, where he made his debut against Newell's Old Boys. After three seasons with Quilmes, he joined Boca Juniors, making 86 appearances. In 1997, he was loaned to Swiss club Lugano, before returning to Boca Juniors the following year.
Premier League Experience
In August 1998, Sorín signed with English giants Arsenal for a fee of £1.6 million. At Arsenal, he faced competition from established defenders Lee Dixon and Nigel Winterburn, making 18 appearances in his first year. In 1999, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger loaned Sorín to Spanish club Celta Vigo to provide him with more playing time. After a season with Celta Vigo, Sorín returned to Arsenal, but found it difficult to break into the starting lineup.
European Journey
In 2001, Sorín moved to Inter Milan, but struggled to establish himself as a regular. Over two seasons, he made only 19 appearances for the Italian club. He then returned to Argentina, signing a one-year contract with River Plate. After his contract expired, he rejoined his former club Quilmes, where he ended his playing career.
International Career
Sorín made his international debut for Argentina in 1995. He represented his country at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, where Argentina reached the quarterfinals. He was known for his versatility and ability to play in multiple positions.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Sorín began his coaching career with Crucero del Norte in 2012. He later worked as an assistant coach for Racing Club and the Argentina national team. Currently, he is the head coach of Club Bolívar in Bolivia.
