Biography of Nestor Carbonell
Early Life and EducationNestor Gaston Carbonell was born on December 1, 1967, in New York City, New York, USA. He was born to Nestor Tulio Carbonell Cortinas and Rosa Ramirez de Arelliano Cardenas. His parents were Cuban with Spanish roots. Carbonell's paternal great-grandfather, Jose Manuel Cortina, was a renowned Cuban politician, orator, and diplomat. He has an older sister named Rosa Maria "Mia" Carbonell, who is the senior vice president of corporate communications for Forbes magazine.
Due to his father's job at PepsiCo, Carbonell and his family frequently moved from place to place. They lived in London, Mexico City, the Bahamas, and Caracas at different times. Carbonell attended the British School in Caracas, Venezuela, and later enrolled at the Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts, where he met his future co-star Matthew Fox from the TV series "Lost." In 1990, Carbonell graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor's degree in English.
Television Career
Carbonell made his television debut in 1989 at the age of 22, appearing in an episode of the soap opera "As the World Turns." From 1991 onwards, he regularly appeared on TV in various genres. Throughout his career, Carbonell has appeared in over 50 television shows, including notable series such as "Law & Order" (1991), "Melrose Place" (1992), "Suddenly Susan" (1996-2000), "Crossing Jordan" (2004-2006), "Lost" (2004-2010), "Bates Motel" (2013-2017), and "The Good Doctor" (2017-...). He also provided voice work for animated shows like "Kim Possible" (2002-2007) and "The Penguins of Madagascar" (2010-2012).

While Carbonell began his television career in 1989, he entered the film industry much later. His debut role in a feature film was in 2000's "Attention Shoppers," where he also served as a screenwriter and executive producer. However, his filmography is not as extensive as his television work. Some of his notable film roles include "The Lost City" (2005), "Smokin' Aces" (2006), "The Dark Knight" (2008), "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012), and "The Promise" (2016).
In addition to his work in television and film, Carbonell has also appeared in theater productions such as "A Silent Thunder" (1990) and "Getting Away with Murder" (1995). He has also directed episodes of the series "Bates Motel" and other shows.

Carbonell received the American Latino Media Arts Award (ALMA Award) in 1998 and 1999 for his role as Luis Rivera in the TV series "Suddenly Susan," winning the "Best Actor in a Comedy Series" category. On January 3, 2001, Carbonell married Australian actress Shannon Kenny, whom he met in 1995 during the filming of the sitcom "Muscle." The couple has two sons, Rafael and Marco.
