Formation and Early Success
In Copenhagen, Denmark, David Boyd and Søren Hansen founded New Politics, a Danish rock band. Before forming the band, Boyd and Hansen worked on their own solo albums for three years. However, they realized it was time to form a group.
In 2009, the duo entered Danish National Radio's "Career Cannon" competition with the songs "Stress" and "Money." Out of 973 submissions, New Politics was among the 42 selected for rotation despite not being an official band yet. They then recruited Paul Amaliel as their drummer.
Contract with RCA Records and Debut Album (2010)
As part of the four winners, New Politics performed at a major Danish music festival. In November 2009, they signed with RCA Records and relocated to the United States, where they currently reside in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
In 2010, the band performed at South by Southwest and released their debut album, "New Politics", on June 13. The album featured their hit single "Yeah Yeah Yeah," which received a music video. New Politics toured the US in support of the album, opening for 30 Seconds to Mars on their Into the Wild Tour.
Lineup Changes and Second Album (2011-2012)
In 2011, Paul Amaliel departed the band to return to Denmark and form Black Swawn. Louis Vecchio replaced him as the drummer. New Politics released the song "Liberty" and performed on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"
In 2012, the band focused on writing their second album, releasing the single "Harlem" in June. However, it was a relatively quiet year due to the album's production.
"A Bad Girl in Harlem" (2013)
New Politics completed their second album in 2013. They released the music video for "Harlem" in February and gave numerous interviews. The album, "A Bad Girl in Harlem," was released on May 21. The band announced a tour of Russia, with dates in St. Petersburg and Moscow.
