Early Life and Athletic Background

Nick Cunningham was born on May 8, 1985, in Los Gatos, California. From a young age, he excelled in sports, participating in sprinting, surfing, rodeo, and football. At Monterey Peninsula College and Boise State University, he captained the track and field team and set a personal best of 21.15 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

Transition to Bobsleigh

In 2008, Cunningham joined the United States bobsleigh team as a brakeman. In his debut season, he won two gold medals with pilot Mike Kohn in the America's Cup and earned a silver and bronze in the national championships.

Olympic Debut and Pilot Conversion

Cunningham's success earned him a spot at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. He finished 12th in the two-man and 13th in the four-man events. In 2011, he transitioned from brakeman to pilot and formed his own team.

World Championship Success and Second Olympic Appearance

At the 2011 World Championships in Lake Placid, Cunningham placed ninth in the two-man, 12th in the four-man, and just missed a bronze medal in the mixed team competition. In the 2012/13 season, his four-man crew secured a podium finish at the World Cup in Lake Placid.

Sochi Olympics and Military Service

Cunningham competed in the 2014 Sochi Olympics, finishing 13th in the two-man and 12th in the four-man events. Alongside his sporting career, Cunningham serves as a sergeant in the New York Army National Guard.
