Early Life and Introduction to Martial ArtsNick Maximov, an American mixed martial artist, was born in the United States on December 23, 1997. His family emigrated from Russia in the 1930s-40s seeking better living conditions. Despite his family's athleticism, Nick initially showed no interest in sports. However, after watching MMA fights on television, he developed a passion for the combat sport.
Professional Career Origins
Maximov made his professional debut on October 6, 2018, for KOATS in the United States. He swiftly dispatched his opponent, Nick Pikachu, via knockout in the first round. Over the next year, Maximov won four more fights prematurely, two by submission and two by first-round knockout.
Dana White's Contender Series and UFC Contract
Maximov's impressive performances earned him a chance on Dana White's Contender Series 2020. He faced Oscar Ivan Cota, who also aimed to secure a UFC contract. Maximov emerged victorious by unanimous decision and was subsequently offered a contract with the world's premier MMA promotion.
UFC Debut and Undefeated Streak
In 2021, Maximov officially joined the UFC with an unblemished record of 6-0. He made his debut on September 25, 2021, against Cody Brundage, another UFC newcomer. Maximov once again showcased his dominance, winning via unanimous decision.
Second UFC Victory and First Defeat
Maximov's second UFC fight was against the highly touted Pu'alele Soriano, who had only suffered one loss. Despite Soriano's experience, Maximov controlled the fight and secured another unanimous decision victory. His winning streak came to an end on May 15, 2022, when Andre Petroski submitted him in the first round with a rear-naked choke.
