Tragic Loss: Apple Store Manager Succumbs to Rare Appendix Cancer
Nick Boardman, a 34-year-old Apple Store manager from Dartford, passed away in March 2015 after battling a rare form of appendix cancer that had silently consumed his appendix for five years, growing to the size of a domestic cat.

Persistent Gastrointestinal Symptoms
Boardman's health struggles began in late 2012 with persistent stomach pain and frequent trips to the toilet. Blood tests in January 2013 indicated inflammation, but its exact location remained undetermined. Despite further testing, Boardman collapsed at work two months later due to severe rectal bleeding.

Unraveling the Mystery
A subsequent biopsy in April 2012 revealed abnormal cells in Boardman's bowel. Despite his suspicion of something more sinister, he initially ruled out cancer due to his age. However, further scans in May 2013 confirmed a large tumor filling his pelvis.

Rare and Devastating Cancer
Boardman's condition was ultimately diagnosed as an extremely rare appendix cancer. The tumor, weighing nearly 13 pounds, had been growing inside and suffocating his appendix for years.

Major Surgery and Palliative Treatment
In January 2014, Boardman underwent a 12-hour surgery at Basingstoke Colorectal Clinic to remove the massive tumor, which was now the size of a large domestic cat. The procedure also involved the removal of his peritoneum, part of his prostate, bladder, and ureter.

Determined to Live Fully
Although confined to a wheelchair, Boardman remained determined to live out his time to the fullest. He underwent six months of chemotherapy for bowel cancer, which helped reduce the visible tumor. Despite frequent hospital stays, Boardman's unwavering optimism inspired those around him.
The Heartbreaking Loss
Boardman's condition gradually worsened, and he entered hospice care in March 2015. He passed away on March 8th, leaving behind his heartbroken wife, Kerry, and their 6-year-old son, Ethan.
Legacy of Support and Gratitude
Kerry and Ethan continue to receive support from Ellenor Hospice, a charity funded by Comic Relief. Boardman's widow acknowledges the invaluable assistance provided by the organization to families facing end-of-life care.
In memory of Boardman, his loved ones actively support Comic Relief fundraising initiatives, recognizing the crucial role the charity plays in providing comfort and support to those facing terminal illnesses.
